I know that wrapping isn't just about slapping the vinyl and calling it a day. There are some preparation steps, that much I know, but what I don't know is what are the steps and what should I check? My car isn't in perfect shape, so I'm sure it won't pass with flying colors, so how much flexibility is there with each check?

At the very least, give it a deep clean and fix any major rust, peeling paint or deep dents since vinyl won't hide those. Small scuffs or rock chips can usually be wrapped over if the surface is smooth. What kind of imperfections are you dealing with? Might help figure out your options!
