My younger brother is convinced he wants to wrap his daily driver in matte black. I keep trying to explain to him that it might not be a practical idea for a car that lives outside. All the pictures online show them perfectly clean in a studio. What is the real-world experience of trying to remove bird droppings or water spots from a matte finish? Is it a constant battle to prevent it from looking blotchy?

Matte finishes are definitely a different beast than gloss paint.
The biggest issue with bird droppings, bugs, or tree sap is that they can etch the finish if not removed quickly, and you can't just buff it out like you would on a gloss car.
For those, it's A matte-specific cleaner and microfiber towel on hand for immediate spot cleaning.
Water spots can also be a pain, especially from hard water.
They tend to stand out more and can be tricky to remove without leaving a shiny spot or streak.
Regular washing with a pH-neutral, matte-specific soap and using a leaf blower or a specific drying aid is usually the best way to prevent them.
So yeah, it requires more careful and immediate attention than a typical glossy car would!
